The three-day international conference “Go Global E” on “Changes and Challenges in Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship” of the Nehru Group of Institutions took off in Coimbatore on Thursday on a note of global preparedness.
Being held in association with the ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu and National Entrepreneurship Network, the first day focussed on education. The Hindu is the media partner for the event.
Inaugurating the conference, E. Balagurusamy, Member (Education), State Planning Commission, highlighted the importance of the three E’s – education, employment and entrepreneurship.
“One of the major reasons for increasing unemployment is that less and less number of engineers are turning entrepreneurs. Only if there were more entrepreneurs, will there be more innovations and production of indigenous things. Importing from countries should stop and engineers should take up the challenge to change the trends of marketing by coming out with their own products. This change should begin from the classroom,” Mr. Balagurusamy said.
U.S. Majumder, deputy general manager, Syndicate Bank, Coimbatore, said that lack of commitment was a basic reason for the gap between employment and unemployment. Every institution should identify the talent of students and effectively use them.
The conference proceedings were release by Mr. Balagurusamy in the presence of Laode M. Kamaluddin, president, Sultan Agung Islamic University, and P. Krishnadas, Trustee, Nehru Group of Institutions, and P. Krishna Kumar, chief executive officer and secretary of the group.
There were sessions on challenges in higher education in India, bench marking and innovations in higher education, cross-border education – their prospects and challenges, and education and employability.
The second day would focus on employment and the last day it would be on entrepreneurship. More than 40 experts from the industry and academia are handling the sessions.
The valediction would be addressed by M. Siva Kumar, chief executive officer, ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu. He would speak on “The Changing Face of Industry and HR Requirements.”
